Worm and anti- Worm tank

Here are the results of the changes in measurements:

Worm tank before - Total = 15cm; leaf layer = 25cm; compost layer = 17cm; soil layer = 5cm.

Worm tank after - Total = 15cm; leaf layer = 15m; compost layer = 9.5 cm; soil layer = 5.3cm.

Anti-worm before: Total = 26cm; leaf layer = 26cm; compost layer = 19cm; soil layer = 5cm.

Anti-worm after: Total = 19cm; leaf layer = 19cm; compost layer = 15cm; soil layer = 5cm.

Questions:

1. What differences can be easily seen between the two tanks?

-the height of the soil, leaf and the compost got lower, that means that the leaf and the other stuff got decomposed.

2. Is this the result you expected?

-yes this was the result we expected. we have expected that the height of the worm tank will get lower and the result was correct to what we have expected.

3. Why did the soil layer get bigger in the worm tank but not in the anti-worm tank?

-i think it's because the leaf and compost got mixed up with the soils. leafs matter didn't changed but only the shape have changed, so the leaf and compost is the part of the soil.

4. In the worm tank, why did the compost layer get much smaller, but the soil layer only got slightly bigger?

-the compost got decomposed and the compost layer got changed to the different layer, so the layer of the compost got smaller but the layer of the soil got bigger.

5. Why do you think the leaf layer remained much the same in both tanks (why didn’t it change much)?

-the leaf couldn't get decomposed because the layer of the compost were getting decomposed first.

6. Even though there were no worms in the anti-worm tank, the compost layer still got a bit smaller. Can you suggest a reason for this?

-i think it's composed of the ant and other bacteria in the tank. that decomposer had decomposed.

FoodPyramid

Why there is a bigger area for the producers than the consumers?

there is a bigger area for the producers than the consumers because the producer only gives ten percent of their energy, so the Consumer needs to eat a lots of the producer to get enough energy from the Producer. so they need lots of producers to make the consumers survive and live.

the top park of the pyramid is bigger than the bottom part of the food pyramid. the producer only gives 10 percent of their energy to the first order consumer, the first order consumer only give ten percent of their energy to the second order consumer. that continues and the animals that is on the top part of the food pyramid is smaller because they get less energy from the other consumers.

Task B

1. What would happen to the rabbits if the foxes disappeared?

2. What would happen to the toads if the predacious insects disappeared?

3. What would happen to the predacious insects if the spiders disappeared (think carefully)?

4. What would happen to the hawks and owls if the foxes and snakes disappeared?

5. What would happen to the foxes if the hawk and owl population increased?

6. Name two species which compete with each other for food.

7. Name two first-order consumers.

8. Name two predators.

(Answers)

1.The population of Rabbits will grow, because the foxs are gone..but the owls still can eat them.

2.The population of Toads migh go down...because the toad eats predacious insects the most.

3.The Spider is gone, so they have to eat herbivours more.

4.there won't be other animals to compete for the food, so the population of the owl will increase.

5.Fox will have trouble finding food, because the owls will eat the most of the food. So the population of Fox will decrease.

6.Spiders and Preaceos Insects.

7.Seeds eating birds and Rabbits

8.Owls and Foxes

Task A

(More Questions)

6. Name two species which compete with each other for food.

7. Name two species which have no predators in this food web.

(Answers)

1. the producer in this web is plants.

2.First -order consumer in this web is organic matter, nematodes, fungi and bacteria.

3.The high-order consumer is Animals, Birds and nematodes.

4.Decomposers are Fungi and Bacteria.

5.They Decompose.....and give energy to Decomposers...

6.The Animals and the nematodes

7.The Animals and The Birds

Seed Group Da Best

in our group, we plant the seed in the plastic with wet tissue. we plant kidney bean and green bean, i had 2 boxes. one of them went in to a cup board and the other one, sat out side the sun.

after 4 weeks we took it out and we found out the differences. one the was out side, it was fresh, green and healthy. but one that was inside the cup board, they were weak and not fresh.

i think reason why the plant didn't grow well in the cup board was, there were not enough sun light and oxygen.
